The girls and boys varsity wrestling team competed in their last preseason tournaments on Friday and Saturday, Jan. 3 and 4. The female athletes wrestled at Woodrow Wilson High School on Friday, while their male counterparts went to John Glen High School on both Friday and Saturday for a two-day competition.

The girls team sent two athletes to the podium, with sophomore Akira Bua (111) and junior Roxanne Lynch (131) both receiving second place in their respective weight classes. The boys had junior Devin Peries (160), who placed fourth in his category.

“Although we don’t always do as well as we hope, we are constantly improving,” Lynch said. “Taking a step back and looking at our growth from last year, we can already see major improvement in our wrestling and technique.”

The Tigers will tackle their season opener against San Marino on Thursday, Jan. 9.
