Varsity girls’ soccer coach relieved of duties after three winning seasons

Varsity girls’ soccer coach Victoria Lathrop announced she will not be renewed for the 2019-2020 school year on Monday, May 13. In an email to the soccer program, she thanked parents and athletes for their continued support. Neither the SPHS administration or Lathrop provided a reason for the decision.

“As of today, I will not be returning to the high school for the 2019-2020 season. The decision was not mine and I am saddened to hear this from Ms. Anderson and Mr. Luna,” Lathrop wrote. “It is not always an easy job and comes with a variety of challenges, but at the end of the day I will always be proud of each student athlete who chose to commit her time and effort to her teammates and her school.”

In three years, Lathrop maintained a stellar 41-15-6 record and led the Tigers to two league titles. She also produced two CIF appearances, including a 2018 Southern Section Division V championship.

With athletic director Gregorio Luna and boys’ basketball coach Ryan Lee also not returning, Lathrop’s exit adds yet another vacancy in the SPHS athletics program.
