Clouds of smoke covered South Pasadena as a result of the nearby fires in Griffith Park on Monday afternoon, Sept. 17.

The first fire erupted within the park near the Toyon Helispot around noon, according to the Los Angeles Fire Department (LAFD). LAFD responded to this 1.5 acre medium to heavy brush fire about one and a half hours later. Air and ground resources surrounded the fire to stop it from spreading and firefighters later extinguished it in approximately 30 minutes.

The second fire set blaze around 5 p.m. near Griffith Park and was marked as a one acre heavy brush fire. 122 firefighters responded to the fires and worked with the Los Angeles County Fire Department and LA Department of Recreation and Parks to combat the flames.

No structure damage or injury was reported in both cases.
