Girls’ volleyball was defeated in three sets by Flintridge Sacred Heart Academy on Thursday, August 23. After starting the year with two straight wins, the Tigers saw their early-season winning streak come to an end at the hands of the Tologs.

In the first set, both teams started off strong, with each narrowly scoring one after the other. However, FSHA quickly surpassed SPHS, but not without several impressive diving attempts from sophomore Lindsey Hirano. The next point for South Pas came from an incredible block by senior Christina Taylor. Taylor would continue to block and score for SPHS throughout the game. The Tigers persisted and gave their all against the Tologs, however, it wasn’t enough. Freshman Ally Sokolow and senior Kimberly Brown made a last-ditch attempt to save the final point, but the set was won by the Tologs, 14-22.

In the second set, the Tigers made an attempt at a comeback. Sophomore Lola Foord scored the first point for SPHS and continued to add to the scoreboard as the set progressed. FSHA continuously hit the ball into the net, which ensured South Pas with a few important points. Hirano relentlessly dove for the ball after several long volleys, but FSHA still won the set, 20-25.

After two disappointing sets, SPHS pulled out all the stops for what would be the final set.  Taylor and Foord continued to block the ball, putting the Tigers up one. Despite their efforts, FSHA overtook the lead and South Pas wasn’t able to recover. However, SPHS still gave several stunning performances before the game was over. Sophomore Lexi Schroeder provided a hard-hitting spike, and Taylor blocked a Tolog shot yet again, both adding to the Tigers’ score. There was still hope for the Tigers, with FSHA only leading by three. One last save by Brown wasn’t enough, however, as South Pas fell 21-25.

The Tigers will have another shot to reestablish their win streak on Tuesday, August 28 against San Gabriel, at 5:00 in the SPHS gym.
