The South Pasadena girls’ tennis team opened 2018 fall preseason play with a dominating 18-0 victory over the Duarte Falcons on Wednesday, August 22. The team now currently sits with a 1-0 record in the early season.
Veteran singles player for South Pasadena, sophomore Carissa Park, defeated all of her singles opponents with a score of 6-0 in each of her matches. Senior Shannon Huang did not fail to match her teammate’s talents, emerging victorious in each set with an individual record of 3-0. Another returning sophomore, Tallula Chow, scored very well in her singles matches, winning each set, before transitioning into her doubles matches. Each singles player was victorious throughout all of their sets, securing South Pasadena a 9-0 shutout in singles.
The doubles players also fired on all cylinders, winning all nine sets. Partners Chow and Park demonstrated their increased strength within their partnership, defeating all of their Falcon counterparts.
“Our team works really cohesively and we have such a unique bond. We joke around a lot but also stay until the end of every match and support and cheer each other on,” said junior Bella Kan, “I think that how we did is an indicator for how well our season will be and I’m so excited to continue to play and win with these girls.”
The team is scheduled to face Glendale High school next Tuesday, August 28, starting at 3:15 p.m.
