Girls’ tennis triumphs over La Cañada 14-4

Girls’ tennis knocked down La Cañada in an away league match on Tuesday, Oct. 15. The Tigers overcame the Spartans to win 14-4.

Freshman Felicity Mason played singles one and swept each of her sets 6-0. Freshman Karissa Oniciuc played singles two and won her first and second sets 6-0 and her third set 6-1. Senior Gwendolyn Culbert played the first two sets of singles three and won her first set 6-0 but lost her second 6-0. Junior Kayla Leung played the third set of singles three and won 6-2.

Senior Claire Chen and junior Maya Oniciuc played the first two sets of doubles one. They won their first set 6-4 and their second 6-2. C. Chen and junior Joie Chen played the last set of doubles one and lost 6-3. Junior Melani Ramos-Platt and junior Emi Fong played doubles two and won their first and second sets 6-3 and 6-0, and won their third 6-2. Junior Helena Gispert and senior Chole Luong lost their first set of doubles three 6-4 and lost their second set 6-4, but won their last set 6-4.

South Pasadena will next face the Monrovia Wildcats at home on Thursday, Oct. 17 at 4:30 p.m. for their Senior Appreciation Day.
