The girls’ golf team’s 2018-19 campaign began with a 229-277 victory over Crescenta Valley at the Altadena Golf Course on Tuesday, August 21. Freshman Maya Turun led the way for the Tigers in her high school debut with a match-best score of 42.
Junior captains Victoria Tskvitichvili and Lindsey Biggar were consistent throughout the round, shooting 44 and 47, respectively. Freshman Lauren Calderon scored 45 and sophomore Katherine Anthony finished with 51 strokes. Freshman Audrey Biggar also contributed to the cause, achieving a score of 61.
The strong play from the freshmen is a positive sign for the upcoming season. After the graduation of top players Bethany Chen and Nicole Srisutham, the Tigers will need to depend on the three freshmen for major contributions.
“I am super excited for the season, because we have a super good freshman [Lauren Calderon] who just came in,” Tskvitichvili said. “We all have pretty strong scores so I’m looking forward to the season and it’s gonna be a lot of fun!”
The team hopes to carry their first match momentum into the rest of the season, when they square off against La Salle at the Brookside Golf Course on Thursday, August 23.
