The South Pasadena golfers excelled in the Rio Hondo League Golf Preliminaries on Tuesday, October 16. Three Tigers finished in the top 15, with freshman Lauren Calderon earning first place in the opening round of the competition.
On the 18 hole course, Calderon shot for 73 strokes, only two over par. Junior co-captain Victoria Tskvitichvili ended in 8th place, with a stroke count of 81. Freshman Maya Turun finished in 13th place with 85 strokes,
“It feels pretty good [to finish first], but I know it’s not over until tomorrow’s finishing score and the runner ups are only 1 stroke behind me,” Calderon said. “I just have to make sure I do my best and stay focused tomorrow so I can put up a good score and possibly make it to the next round.”
Calderon, Tskvitichvili, and Turun all qualify for the next round of the league playoffs on Wednesday, October 17. Junior co-captain Lindsey Biggar (93 strokes), sophomore Katherine Anthony (98), and freshman Cassy Huang (110) did not make the final cut and will not participate on Wednesday.
