Freshman golfer Calderon takes home league title

The South Pasadena golfers dominated the Rio Hondo League Finals on Wednesday, October 17, with freshman Lauren Calderon winning RHL MVP honors and junior Victoria Tskvitichvili capturing a third-place finish. Freshman Maya Turun withdrew from the competition due to personal reasons.

Calderon shot for 78 strokes, raising her two day total to 151. Tskvitichvili was not far behind, boasting a daily score of 81 and 162 overall. The duo will move on and play in the Regional CIF competition on Monday, October 22.

“I think that after [the last two days] of golf, it’s always good to get a break, but I will definitely practice over the weekend to get ready,” Calderon said. “I’ll make sure that I stay focused and just try my best. I know there are a lot of really good girls who will be playing so, I will do my best to be as prepared as I can.”
