The varsity boys’ water polo team’s undefeated streak ended on Thursday, September 17, away at Montebello High School, as the Tigers fell to the Montebello Oilers by a score of 13-8.

The boys kept it close in the first quarter, scoring two goals and conceding three. In the second quarter, the game started to slip away. Montebello managed to sneak three goals past the South Pasadena defense, while only letting one in. At halftime, although the Tigers trailed 6-3, the game was still in reach.

Unfortunately for South Pasadena, the third quarter was its worst of the game. The Oiler defense proved very difficult to penetrate, and offensively Montebello added four more goals. At the end of three quarters, things were looking very grim for the Tigers, who trailed 10-4. In the fourth quarter, South Pasadena’s offense finally found some life, but it was too little, too late. Montebello’s lead proved to be too big to erase, and the game ended in a 13-8 loss for the Tigers.

Despite today’s loss, the team’s season has been incredible so far. The boys have amassed a 4-1 record, and have looked very impressive in the process. The boys look to bounce back the next game on Friday, September 18, in the Los Altos Tournament.
