Boys’ golf falls to Poly in season debut

The boys’ varsity golf team was unable to come out victorious in its first preseason match against Polytechnic High School on Tuesday, February 28. The Tigers closed out the season opener with a score of 233-208 on the Almansor Golf Course. This loss puts South Pas at a record of 0-1 to begin their season.

Sophomore Josh Ramos showed exceptional promise for the upcoming season with a score of 33 strokes. Seniors Daniel Sim and Matthew Wright followed with scores of 47 and 48, respectively. Newly acquired freshman Jason Gomez made his debut, ending with a score of 51. Senior Andrew Son closed out the match by bringing in a 54.

The absence of key senior Elliott Lee may have contributed to the Tigers’ loss in addition to the nerves that come with a season opener.

It was our first game and everyone was a little nervous. As a team we just need more focus and to work on being able to score during matches and not just during practice,” said Son.

The Tigers are set to play their next preseason match on Thursday, March 2 against Gabrielino High School. The crew will continue to try and improve its record while preparing for its first league game.
