Badminton stumbles versus San Marino

Badminton suffered its first defeat of the season to San Marino on Monday, March 19, losing 13-8, in a match characterized by momentum swings and tight games. The loss drops the squad’s overall and league records to 2-1 and 0-1, respectively.

Unlike past performances, the mixed doubles tandems of sophomores Emily Choi and Charles Liu and junior Steven Wu and sophomore Jamilah Hah emerged victorious in only one of their four combined matches. The duos put up a valiant effort, with Choi and Liu losing two consecutive games 21-19 for a match loss before earning a win later on.

Fortunately, boys’ singles players Liu and freshman Jonathan Ng fared better versus the rival Titans, garnering three wins. Boys’ doubles also played admirably, with Wu and junior Jiamin Xu dominating their opponents. However, the girls’ singles and girls’ doubles fell short of expectations, losing seven of their eight matches.

While the result may not be what badminton was hoping to earn, the youth of the squad predicts future success against tough RHL opponents. This defeat was an important test for subsequent matches, such as the home game versus Arcadia on Wednesday, March 21.
