Track and field shows out at Jim Cerveny Invitational

The track field team earned numerous top three finishes at the Jim Cerveny Invitational in San Diego on Saturday, Apr. 13. South Pas competed against over 30 schools in 36 different events at Mission Bay High School.

Junior distance runner Sam Clark set a personal record (PR) in the 1600m, finishing in 4:30.44 to win first place by a slim margin of .13 seconds. Junior jumper Tianhao Wei, who specializes in triple jump, also set a PR in the long jump. Wei jumped 21’10’’ to take first place by an inch. Junior Lim Bui won the boys’ varsity shot put with a 46’07’’ throw.

With a few of the top girls’ athletes unable to make the trip to San Diego, the Tigers struggled to win in the girls’ varsity division. However, the girls’ 4×800 team of sophomore Amelia Jarolim, senior Rainey Tilley, sophomore Lindsay Michels, and freshman Sydney Morrow placed second with a time of 9:57.03. The girls’ frosh soph team performed better at Mission Bay, with sophomores Jenna Okohira and Ella Leeson finishing in the top two in the 400m and 100m events, respectively.

The Tigers’ will face Blair next in a Rio Hondo League dual meet Thursday, Apr. 18th.
