On Thursday, May 4, SPHS varsity boys tennis swept the Arlington Lions 14-4 at Arlington High School in their first CIF playoff match. The doubles teams almost completely swept Arlington, with singles players only finding challenges against one opponent. For the Tigers, this is an assurance of making a deep playoff run.

“[Beating Arlington] was great, it was exciting. We haven’t been to CIF in a long time, and the boys… played well. So that was awesome. Our doubles [teams] almost swept… but it wasn’t like one person carried the team. It was a real team effort,” coach Krista Gale said.

Having won the Rio Hondo League, the Tigers are preparing to blaze through playoffs but will face tougher opponents.

On Friday, May 5, SPHS will play against the Santiago Sharks of Santiago High School, a team holding the third seat in their league, at home.
