South Pasadena schools receive the Golden Ribbon award

South Pasadena High School was commended as a 2017 California Gold Ribbon School this Wednesday. The press release announcement recognized a total of 275 schools across the state, including South Pasadena Middle School as well.

The Gold Ribbon award is replacing California Distinguished Schools, which awarded schools with a seal based on standardized testing scores. This newer system seeks to evaluate schools on a more holistic scale in accordance with the state’s new accountability systems. State Superintendent Tom Torlakson’s announcement confirms the recommendation California Gold Ribbon Schools communicated after their March 28th campus visit.

“Our challenge was to identify and explain one exemplary practice from the many great programs we offer.  We selected the Career Technical Education (CTE) and Project Lead the Way (PLTW) pathways for college and career readiness as our exemplary practice,” Principal Janet Anderson said. A large variety and number of students and teachers are included.  I am thrilled that the State has recognized our success with a Gold Ribbon Award.”

SPHS administrators will be invited to a statewide California School Recognition Program Awards Ceremony for all honorees on May 15th. The event, sponsored in part by California Casualty, will acclaim all Gold Ribbon Secondary School recipients as well as other state-distributed awards.
