The softball team’s record dropped to 0-3 in the preseason after a shutout 8-0 loss at the Gabrielino High School Eagles on Wednesday, March 9. The squad’s defense improved as the game progressed, but the Tigers failed to produce any runs of their own.

South Pasadena struggled as a whole in the beginning of the game, just as it had in the first two games of the preseason. In the first four innings, the Tigers conceded five run and failed to get past second base. At the end of the fifth inning, senior Jocelyn Arellano relieved the injured junior pitcher Adriana Ramirez. She pitched the Tigers’ only two scoreless innings, with the help of a double play by senior third baseman Alex Mendez in the sixth. Senior Sheridan Nansen substituted for Arellano in the final inning, allowing one inning and closed out the game.

“We have everything we need to win,” sophomore Amelia Anthony said, “but we need to execute what we’ve worked on in practice.”

The Tigers hope to earn their first win in their next game against Polytechnic High School on Friday, March 11.
