The SPHS gym was closed off to students on Wednesday, May 11 while it was transformed into a science fair for the set of a Google commercial. The crew began production at 9:30 A.M. and continued until 10:00 P.M.

Filmers are required to apply for the opportunity to film at the high school. Secretary Ms. Ferris and Principal Ms. Anderson are in charge of reviewing applications and coordinating with the crew.

“Our number one priority is to make sure that the filming will not interfere with the education of students,” Ferris said. “This commercial only needed our gym, which was something that would not be disruptful.”

South Pasadena High School has been the site of multiple commercial filmings this year. The school makes money for lending its property, and this money is put back into the school. The principal is in charge of how the money is spent, and its value can be seen directly on campus. New benches, tables, and general renovations are all examples of where the money goes.
