Girls tennis shut out the Baldwin Braves, 18-0, in its latest preseason game on Thursday, Sept. 19, bringing the Tigers to a 4-4 preseason record.

Playing an easy opponent, coach Krista Gale experimented with the lineups, shuffling partners around. Singles one, freshman Kyra Campbell, played a near perfect match, winning 6-2, 6-0, and 6-0. Junior Olivia Reed and senior Bella Kan split time as singles two; Kan defeated the competition 6-1 in the first set and Reed finished off the last two, 6-0 and 6-2. Singles three, sophomore Ava Feldman, also dominated, emerging victorious 6-0, 6-0, and 6-1.

Doubles one, senior Teryn Kum and junior Skylar Cornforth, played a perfect 6-0 set. Kum and Cornforth were substituted for junior captain Carissa Park and junior Meagan Chang, who won both of their sets 6-1 and 6-0.  Doubles two, junior Kimberly Hsueh and sophomore Stephanie Li, won 6-0, 6-2, and 6-0. Junior Sienna Chen and sophomore Sarah Uwabo, doubles three, completed the sweep with 6-2, 6-2, and 6-1 wins.

“I’m really pleased that the girls showed amazing teamwork again today and played well,” Gale said. “It was a great win.”

The girls team hopes to break .500 in its final preseason match against Arroyo on Monday, Sept. 23.
