The girls’ varsity tennis team was triumphant by a score of 10-8 after facing Crescenta Valley High School on the road Thursday, August 27. Though the matchup was not an official league game, the victory gave a preview of the team’s promising potential for success in the upcoming regular season.

The team was outstanding in singles, winning eight out of nine. Sophomore Molly Round displayed an exceptional performance, winning all of her sets. Similarly, freshman Shannon Huang showcased a memorable high school debut by sweeping her opponent in three sets.

Even though South Pas experienced less success in doubles matches, the Tigers were still able to claim two more victories. Juniors Jessica Chang and Ashley Huang won a set 6-2. Also, the underclassmen team of Rachel Park and  Ashley Sato was able to outduel the opponents in one of three sets.

The close score did not properly convey the team’s remarkable performance. The Tigers were able to confront tough opponents under intense heat, focusing only on the possibility of victory. If the team is able to continuously compete at this level, then a second straight CIF birth will be well within reach.

“We won a tough game today,” junior Nour Mallat said, “ and we are determined to go far this season!”

The girls will attempt to carry over the momentum from this victory to their next home game against Burbank High School on Tuesday at home.
