The girls’ varsity tennis team suffered a devastating 5-13 loss in the first game of the year against the Burbank Bulldogs on Tuesday, August 30 at Burbank High School.

Seniors Ashley Huang and Jessica Chang lost their first set 1-6, but came back to win the next two matches, 6-4 and 6-3. Senior Anya Nicolaides and freshman Teryn Kum were able to win their first two matches by scores of 6-3 and 6-1, respectively, but lost their final match by a score of 0-6.

Juniors Emma Childers and Sophia Tomasevic won their third set by a score of 6-2, but were not able to win the first or second.

All three singles players were not able to mirror the success of the doubles’ teams, as no one won a set.

Noticeably absent from the game was team captain Junior Molly Round who missed the game for personal reasons.

This preseason game is a learning experience for the team, who will be facing the Polytechnic Panthers this coming Thursday, September 1 at Polytechnic High School.
