The girls’ varsity tennis team won their first game of the year 12-6 against the Polytechnic Panthers on Thursday, September 1 at Polytechnic High School. This win followed the team’s loss against the Burbank Bulldogs on Tuesday, evening their record to 1-1.
Senior Ashley Huang and junior Sophia Tomasevic won their first two sets, but lost their last match 2-6. Senior Anya Nicolaides and junior Molly Round won all three sets, as well as senior Jessica Chang and freshman Sheila Li, who won with scores of 6-1, 7-5, 6-1.
The singles players were able to improve their game after not being able to win a single set against the Bulldogs.
Sophomore Shannon Huang grabbed two of three. Additionally freshman Teryn Kum won her first match 6-1 but lost her last two matches. Sophomore Rachel Park lost the first and last games, but nabbed a win in her second set.
“We improved from our loss last time and were able to win this game and we will continue to work on being a stronger team,” Li said.
The team’s next game is on Thursday, September 8 at home against Crescenta Valley.
