The varsity girls’ tennis team endured a tough 12-6 loss against La Cañada on Tuesday, October 2. The loss drops the girls’ league record to 2-2.

The singles squad, which saw some changes since their previous games, was unable to win a set against the Spartans. Singles one, sophomore Kimberly Hsueh, was unable to make a dent in La Cañada’s strong play, losing three sets 6-0. Lena Kushigemachi, singles two, also struggled to win a game, dropping three sets 6-0 to La Cañada. Singles three, junior Bella Kahn, was unable to fare better than singles one and two, again losing three 6-0 games to La Cañada’s overbearing singles players.

The South Pas doubles squad emerged victorious in the majority of their games, picking up all six of the team’s wins. Doubles team one, seniors Shannon Huang and Rachel Park, swiftly took all three of their sets, winning two 6-0 games and an additional set 6-3. Sophomore Carissa Park and senior Sheila Li, doubles team two, grabbed a quick 6-1 victory and another hard-fought 7-5 victory in extra games, but came just shy of a win in their third set, losing 7-6. Doubles team three, junior Teryn Kum and sophomore Talulla Chow, took down La Cañada in their first set with a score of 6-2, but lost their last two sets 6-3 and 6-2.

The girls’ tennis team will next play in an away match against Temple City on Tuesday, October 9.
