The girls’ varsity tennis team sent team captain sophomore Molly Round to the second round of the individual Rio Hondo League tournament on Thursday, October 29 at Live Oak Park in Temple City. She could not overcome strong opponents from San Marino, losing the first match by scores of 0-6 and 0-6, and the second match 6-3, 2-6, and 4-10.

“Molly did a great job representing South Pas,” junior Nour Mallat said, “She has really proven her ability to lead this team as the captain.”

This tournament capped off a very successful season even though none of the Tigers came out victorious. The team was able to make CIF for the second consecutive season after a six-year drought, finishing third behind San Marino and La Cañada. The girls ended 4-4 in the Rio Hondo League regular season and finished 10-4-1 overall.

The team won its last Rio Hondo League game against Monrovia by a landslide score of 18-0. The girls hope to carry this momentum over to the impending start of CIF in the
coming weeks.

“CIF is the team’s chance to showcase all of the hard work we have been putting in,” Round said, “We are going to try go as far as possible and then this season on a high note.”
