Girls’ golf outlasts Gabrielino in final match

The girls’ golf team finished the regular season with a victory, narrowly defeating Gabrielino by a score of 214-215. The team finished the year with a 6-4 league record and an 11-4 overall record.

Freshman Lauren Calderon saved her best performance for last, scoring 32 strokes. Fellow freshman Maya Turun scored 40 strokes and junior co-captain Victoria Tskvitichvili had a score of 43. The other junior co-captain, Lindsey Biggar, shot for 49 strokes. Freshman Cassy Huang and sophomore Katherine Anthony had scores of 50 and 51, respectively.

“I played one of my best rounds today, but everyone said that they could definitely do better,” Calderon said. “Now we are going to [individual CIF] preliminaries and we just have to play our best.”

South Pasadena will send its top six players to the Rio Hondo League preliminaries, where each will compete for the individual league championship trophy. The prelims will be held on Tuesday, October 16 at the Almansor Golf Course.
