Girls’ golf defeats Westridge to win two straight

The Tigers defeated the Westridge Tigers, 207-300 at the Alhambra golf course, increasing its record to 2-0 in pre-season. Junior captain Caitlyn Yamashita led girls’ golf to its second victory in Thursday’s match against Westridge high school.

Yamashita finished with the top score in Thursday’s match with a 35. With only her second varsity appearance, sophomore Bethany Chen continued to impress with the second best score at 39. Juniors Sara Hasegawa and Emily Swanson also made it in the mix with the scores of 43 and 44, respectively. Senior captain, Christine Abbott capped it off with a score of 46.

“For today, I felt confident. There is no secret to success. I put in a lot of hours on the driving range and on the course over the summer to improve my game. I was able to qualify for big tournaments and even played in a tournament in Florida,” Yamashita said.
Already a 2-0 start, the girls hope to continue their success with a win at Azusa on Tuesday, September 15.
