SPHS invited incoming freshman back to the high school for the second part of 8th Grade Night on Wednesday, March 15. While the first part of the two-night event focused more on acquainting the students and their families to the SPHS campus and classes, this night emphasized class programming.

Principal Janet Anderson, Assistant Principal of Curriculum and Instruction Ginger Merritt-Paul, and several of the counselors explained the intricacies of programming classes, covering graduation and A-G requirements. A PowerPoint presentation outlined academic class progressions so that students could begin mapping out their four year plans.

The administrators also talked about the variety of electives and extracurriculars that SPHS offers. Parents and students looked over infographics detailing the different CTE and PLTW courses in the packets that were passed out to everyone. Counselor Tracy Ishimaru also explained the importance of having good study habits, as well as regular attendance.

After the official presentation, students and their families were invited to stay for a Q&A session with Mrs. Merritt-Paul. Current eighth graders will begin programming for next year’s classes on Monday, March 27. All information from the night’s presentation can be found on the SPHS counselors’ page.
