School Board member Dr. Suzie Abajian announced her resignation in an email to SPUSD parents on Wednesday, Sept. 29. Abajian’s resignation will go into effect on October 13, following her last Board meeting on October 12. Abajian’s resignation comes as a result of her moving out of South Pasadena and thus ineligibility for the School Board.

Dr. Abajian began her educational career at SPHS during the 1990s. Abajian has served on the School Board since 2015 and has consistently supported the expansion of language dual-immersion programs, the STEM fields, and inclusion for LGBTQ+ students. During the pandemic, she advocated for social-emotional support to mitigate the effects of changes brought on by coronavirus.

“Serving on the South Pasadena School Board has been among the most meaningful work in my life. My husband Sean and I have truly loved living in South Pasadena for the past decade and connecting with so many amazing people. We will miss being part of the close-knit community,” Abajian said in her resignation statement.

No information has been released yet regarding Abajian’s replacement.

This is an ongoing story. More details will be added as they emerge.
