The SPHS dance department put on their annual spring dance concert, Circus, on Thursday and Friday, May 11 and 12. Ringmaster of the circus sophomore Jackson Monical wrangled elephants, clowns, mimes and more during the performance.

Students from the SPHS PE dance classes, Dance Ensemble, Color Guard, and Drumline showcased their talent in over 30 different dance numbers. Genres ranged from ballet to contemporary dance to hip hop. Choreographers included SPHS dance instructors Courtney Cheyne and Maria Del Bagno and senior Grace Privett-Mendoza.

Special guests Miranda Sullivan and Joey Leon joined the students as dancers and choreographers for the show. The first tap dancer to reach the top 10 on the show So You Think You Can Dance, Sullivan’s credits include High School Musical, Glee, Dancing with the Stars, and the recent Oscar winning La La Land. Sullivan currently teaches tap at the Colburn School. Leon, currently SPHS’ Color Guard instructor, has performed with many prominent organizations and is a judge for the WCPA (Southern California Performance Association).
