The Pacific-Rio Hondo League Challenge was held on Wednesday, Sept. 11 at Lacy Park where 11 schools competed. South Pasadena’s varsity cross country teams competed in the three miles girls and three miles boys races, both taking second place.
From the girls team, senior Abigail Errington placed first in the three mile with a time of 16:46, breaking the course record for girls. Fellow senior Saidbh Byrne placed sixth with a time of 18:40. Senior Sophia Humphrey followed in seventh with a time of 18:58. Senior Chloe Koo placed 14th with a time of 19:44. Senior Amelie Geoffron finished 17th with a time of 19:57. Junior Rose Vandevelde finished 18th, clocking in at 20:05.
From the boys team, sophomore Michael Scarince placed first in the three mile with a time of 15:29. Senior Noah Aldana placed sixth with a time of 15:51. Junior Kai Tilley placed ninth with a time of 16:08. Junior Dylan Shugg followed in 10th with a time of 16:16. Senior Adam Elsayed placed 13th with a time of 16:20. Senior Adam Ruiz finished 15th, clocking in at 16:25.
“This will be a historic season for the varsity girls cross country team,” Head Coach Mike Parkinson wrote. “This group of seniors have made it to the State Championships all three past years…I believe they can win State…”
The Tigers are looking forward to the 43rd Annual Woodbridge Cross Country Classic on Friday, Sept. 20 at Orange County Great Park.
