The badminton team faltered in its match against Arcadia’s adept team with a score of 17-4 on Friday, Mar. 22. The Apaches are one of the toughest opponents the Tigers will encounter this season, being the CIF Open Division Runner Ups. This game is now the first loss the team has suffered since its season started, breaking their undefeated streak and dropping to a 4-1 league record.
The game commenced with mixed doubles team junior Joan Choi and sophomore Jonathan Ng, where the two attained a close fought win in their three set match. Singles players Ng, and juniors Emily Choi and Charles Liu won by slim margins in their nail biting matches as well.
“We mainly lost because almost the entirety of their varsity team has had formal training, while compared to us, only some of us had formal training,” badminton captain Liu said.
Despite the Tigers’ loss to the Apaches, the team gained valuable insight as to what it should focus more on to improve. South Pas hopes to further enhance its agility and accuracy, as well as aims to better its mixed doubles and singles matches.
The badminton team aspires to recover from this loss in its next home game against Webb on Thursday, Mar. 28.
