The varsity girls’ golf team came out victorious once again against Rowland High School by a close 248-249 total this Tuesday, September 13 at Industry Hills Golf Club. The Tigers were missing two of their key players, senior co-captain Caitlyn Yamashita and freshman Lindsey Biggar, which was a testament to the depth on the team.
The void was evident, as the Tigers only beat the Raiders by one stroke which sharply contrasts with the rest of the girls’ preseason matches, in each of which the girls have looked dominant. However, the varsity squad still had an impressive match.
Junior Bethany Chen lead the team with 46 strokes with senior Emily Swanson not far behind, totalling a 49. Senior Clara Wong followed with a 51 and freshman Victoria Tsyviti shot an impresssive 47. Rounding it out, junior Nicole Srisutham shot a 55, senior Sara Hasegawa shot a 56, and sophomore Miranda Cheung shot a 63.
“I think that we did great despite missing two key players of our team. Although the score was incredibly close, we all still managed to come together and bring home the win! We’ll definitely bring this new confidence to our future matches and hope to keep our undefeated streak another year!” Srisutham said.
The Tiger’s next game is home, on Thursday, September 15 against the Alhambra Moors at Almansor Golf Course. Additionally, Yamashita will be representing the Pasadena area at the Nature Valley First Tee Open golf tournament at Pebble Beach on Saturday, September 17th. The event will be televised on the Golf Channel.
