On Friday, May 8, boys’ tennis emerged victorious after defeating the Fountain Valley Barons 12–6 at CIF playoffs.

Singles ended up winning a total of five out of nine matches.

The number one singles player, sophomore Brendan Chew, won his first set 6–2. However, he lost his second set, 6–2, before securing the win at the end, 6–0.

“I was moving really well, and I think I hit a lot of good approach shots,” Chew said. “I would like us to win as many [sets] as we can so that we can move on to the next round.”

Junior Sean Kim, the number two singles player, kept a winning streak of 6–0, 7–5, and 6–0.

Sophomore Rowan Hirahara, the number three singles player, lost all three sets 6–3, 6–0, and 6–4.

Doubles won seven matches out of nine matches.

Seniors Adain Liu and Lucas Cornforth, the number one doubles players, won 6–4, 6–0, and 6–0, showing an impressive performance.

Sophomores Nico Wise and Jeremy Chen also won all three sets 7–5, 6–0, and 6–2.

The number three doubles players, sophomores Mathew Wong and Dylan Watanabe, lost their first set 6–0, then won the next set 6–4 before they lost 6–2.

“We played great, undefeated back-to-back years. The chemistry between the boys is really good, and we’ve just been working on a lot of things, and I think it’s paying off. We’ll take the early part of the summer to reassess the program here,” head coach Muresan said. “Obviously, we have three seniors graduating, so we’ll have to do some tryouts and see if they can fill in the openings. But yeah, just trying to make the program the best possible.”

The following Friday, May 15, the team won their first CIF title.
