Track and Field tackles two of the biggest track meets in the country

Athletes from all over the country arrived at SPHS to compete in the Tiger Invitational on Friday, April 10. The event is one of the biggest and most prestigious track meets in California, hosting over 200 schools from around the country and occasionally athletes from other nations such as Australia and Canada. Hundreds of personal records were run this past weekend, breaking many records.

Freshman Anna McDonnell ran a personal record of 11:12 in the varsity 3200m race to take 10th place. Junior Evan Taylor and seniors Zen Williams, Sophia Allen, and Naya Holden took fifth in the 4×100-meter relay with a time of 49.36 seconds. Senior Anna Kowal ran a personal record of 17.98 seconds in the 100-meter hurdles. Junior Lily Kimura broke her personal record in high jump with a jump of 5-02 to take second place. She also got a personal record in pole vault with a 9-04. Senior Elizabeth Rosenberg took third place in shot put with a throw of 34-10.50, a season best for the senior.

Junior Gavin Wernberg competed at the Arcadia Invitational, the biggest and most prestigious high school meet in the country, this weekend. Wernberg took second place at Arcadia Invite in the open division of shot put, an incredible achievement for the Tigers.

The Tigers had a phenomenal performance at both invitationals, with many coming out with a new personal best and experience.

The Tigers are entering the latter half of the season and had their last dual meet on Wednesday, April 22, at Monrovia High School.
