On Tuesday, Mar. 10, the SPHS boys tennis team faced the Temple City Rams at home with a final score of 13-5. The game was the first Rio Hondo League match, and the Tigers’ first win of the season. They are now 1-1 overall, following a previous loss against Brentwood.

The first round went smoothly. Junior Sean Kim, the #1 singles player, won 6-0. The #2 and #3, sophomore Brendan Chew and freshman Parker Su, won their matches 6-2 and 6-0 respectively.

The #1 doubles team, seniors Lucas Cornforth and Aidan Liu, won 6-4. Senior Douglas Kiyan played in place of Liu for their next two doubles matches. Kiyan and Cornforth went on to win their first set together 6-0 but lost their last doubles matchup against Temple City’s #2 doubles team. The Tigers’ #2 doubles duo, sophomores Nico Wise and Jeremy Chen, won all of their sets in a consecutive 6-2, 6-3, and 6-2 sweep.

The #3 doubles team, sophomores Rowan Hirahara and Dylan Watanabe, lost their first set in a very close tiebreaker with a score of 6-7(5). The pair won their second set 6-2. Sophomore Alan Liu was subbed in place of Watanabe for the third match, where they lost 2-6 against Temple City’s #1 doubles team.

The Tigers next faced La Canada on Mar. 17 at home and Arcadia on Mar. 19 at Arcadia High School.
