Baseball faced the San Marino Titans at home, winning 11–3. The Tigers displayed excellent teamwork and offense, which granted them an incredible comeback and victory.

The first inning began with San Marino batting first. They were able to get three hits and score the first run of the game, making the score 1–0. The Tigers barely missed a run, and the Titans got three outs, ending the first inning with the Tigers in distress.

The second and third innings were uneventful, with neither the Tigers nor the Titans scoring any points. However, the Tigers’ outfield players worked tirelessly in the heat, preventing any more points on the Titans’ side.

However, during the fourth inning, the Tigers evened the score to 1–1 when senior Anthony Ortiz hit a double off the wall and scored the Tigers’ first run of the game.

The Titans were quick to follow in the fifth inning, scoring one run during the inning, and taking the lead with a score of 2–1. Sophomore Cody Robinson showed tremendous determination, particularly in the second and fifth innings, as he continuously stalled the Titans from hitting any more runs.

During the sixth inning, junior Julian Barnes slowly made his way to each base after each hitter. Finally, after a successful hit, he was able to make a run and even the score to 2–2. With spirits high, Ortiz managed to hit another run, giving the Tigers a lead of 3–2. In a flurry of plays, two more Tigers made it home after solid contact with the Titans’ pitches. They scored two runs, which gave the Tigers a lead of 5–2.

An hour into the game, the crowd slowly began to wonder if the Tigers were done scoring, due to the Titans’ fierce plays and the intense temperature. That was soon changed once senior Ishan Trachtenberg broke through the tension and hit the ball far into the outfield, allowing three of his teammates, including himself, to make it all the way to home base. The consistent hits continued for the Tigers until eventually the score was 11–2.

The Tigers and crowd were ecstatic as the seventh inning began, running off the high from the last inning. Even with the Titans batting in a run, which made the score 11–3, the Tigers remained unfazed and finished the Titans off shortly after, winning the game 11–3.

“Earlier on [in the game] we had some mental mistakes, couldn’t execute when we had to, [but] Cody, our pitcher, really kept us in the game. It was just a great team win,” Barnes said.

The Tigers will face the La Cañada Spartans at home on Tuesday, March 17, at 3:30 p.m.
