South Pasadena High School’s track and field team showcased impressive performances at their recent Crescenta Valley Distance Invite, which was held on Saturday, Feb. 22 at La Cañada High School. Multiple Tiger athletes secured top finishes across various distance events.
From the boys’ team, senior Adam Ruiz finished sixth in the 800 meters with a time of 2:04.31. Senior Rocket McDonald followed closely behind, finishing eighth with a time of 2:04.91, while junior Charles Hudson finished 17th with 2:11.24.
Sophomore Michael Scarince placed third in the 1600 meters with 4:30.17. Junior Kai Tilley finished 11th with 4:42.59.
Scarince also finished eighth in the 3200 meters with a 9:48.83 time. Senior Noah Aldana, Tilley, and junior Dylan Shugg finished 10th, 11th, and 12th with times of 9:53.25, 9:57.38, and 9:57.39, respectively.
The boys’ team placed fourth in the 4×400 men’s relay, setting a personal record with 3:47.39. The relay was run by Ruiz, senior Nicholas Yeh, senior Jake Lau, and McDonald.
SPHS’s female athletes delivered standout performances, securing top placements across multiple events.
In the 800 meter, senior Melanie Romo placed 12th with a time of 2:41.20, followed by freshman Kyla de Villa in 15th place at 2:42.53. In the 1600, senior Amelie Geoffron secured a 12th-place finish, clocking 5:44.92.
In the 3200 meters, senior Abigail Errington won the race with a first-place finish, clocking in at 10:53.42. Seniors Maya Lee and Sophia Humphrey finished back-to-back in eighth and ninth with times of 11:55.01 and 12:02.84. Senior Chloe Koo finished 11th with 12:05.98.
The girls’ team placed 11th in the 4×400 women’s relay, run by junior Rose Vandevelde, sophomore Alice Rowley, Romo, and sophomore Amelie Fiss. The team set a personal record with 5:00.03.
These performances highlight the depth of South Pasadena’s track and field team, with strong contributions from both upper and underclassmen. As the season progresses, the Tigers look to build on their momentum and continue delivering standout performances in upcoming meets.
The Crescenta Valley Distance Invite was a distance-only meet, and track will have their sprint meet next Saturday, March 1.
