Swimming suffers crushing defeat to La Cañada at home

The SPHS swim team suffered a crushing defeat in its second league meet of the season against La Cañada on Thursday, Mar. 21. Both JV and varsity teams were substantially behind throughout the meet, with varsity boys’ losing 114-56. Although varsity girls’ came close to a victory in the last event, the team ended with a 89-80 defeat.

Senior Jaden Mullin managed to take 1st place in the 100-meter backstroke with a 56.89 time. Mullin also placed 2nd in the 100-meter butterfly.

Varsity girls’ placed 1st in their 200-meter medley event, giving them the early advantage. Sophomore Maya Villasenor continued the girls’ lead in the 200-meter individual medley with her 1st place 2:19 time, while freshman Sadie Metcalfe took 2nd with a 2:22 time. Freshman Allysan Tse’s 1st place 100-meter backstroke and Metcalfe’s 2nd place 100-meter breaststroke positioned the girls in place for a possible win if they were successful in the 400-meter medley relay. Though they took 1st with an impressive 3:54 time in the 400-meter medley relay, the team was unable to take 3rd and failed to earn enough points to defeat La Cañada.

Swimming will face off against Monrovia in an away meet on Thursday, Mar. 28.
