The swim team faced a hard-fought defeat in a meet against El Toro High School on Saturday, March 27. Individual performances remained impressive despite the loss. The athletes stayed positive throughout the meet, challenging themselves against a 2016 CIF Division 1 team.
The girls’ varsity team lost by only nine points, with a final score of 54-45. In spite of previous success this season, the boys’ varsity team experienced a harsher defeat.
Though he finished second in the race, senior Alexandre Sannibale managed a CIF consideration time for his outstanding 500 Freestyle swim. South Pas also placed first and second in the boys’ 200 Individual Medley, with freshman Timothy Chiu finishing just after sophomore Jaden Mullen.
The girls’ varsity athletes happily took first place against their high level competitors in the 200 Medley Relay. Sophomore Kyra Angkasa had a characteristically victorious meet, winning first in both the 100 Butterfly and the 100 Breaststroke.
“Our team showed a strong effort, but the [El Toro] was in another division so it was hard to defeat a tougher team” said junior and team manager Chloe Lucas.
The team will next compete at home against Blair on Thursday, March 30.
