SPUSD announced that they will offer a full, in-person return for all students on Aug. 12 in an email on Tuesday, July 13. Similar to guidelines during hybrid learning, students will be required to wear masks, regardless of coronavirus vaccination status.

The district will continue following state and county health and safety guidelines throughout the school year and has continued the use of additional safety measures such as air filtration systems and sanitizing stations. While vaccinations for students are not required, it is highly recommended by the district.

“Layered mitigation measures have proven to be effective against the spread of COVID-19. Getting vaccinated is the best way to keep you and your loved ones safe,” Superintendent Dr. Geoff Yantz said in the email. “If your child meets the age criteria and has not had the opportunity to be vaccinated, please strongly consider doing so before the first day of school.”

For students who are at a higher medical risk for coronavirus, the district plans to offer a year-long independent study program. More information regarding the independent study program may be found at the Independent Study Webinar on Thursday, July 22 at 5 P.M. Students must be registered for the independent study program by July 29, or they will be placed in in-person learning.

If a student is planning to attend in-person school, they must complete a data confirmation form on the AERIES Parent Portal between July 26 at 8 A.M. and Aug. 10 at 12 P.M.
