South Pasadena Middle School (SPMS) Principal David Kubela announced he will be leaving his position effective on Thursday, Apr. 30, to fill his new role as principal of Acton-Agua Dulce Middle School. SPMS Assistant Principal Carlos Kassam-Clay will take over the position temporarily until the district finds a replacement.

Kubela has worked in South Pasadena for 12 years, beginning as SPMS Principal in August 2008. Kubela also previously served as Assistant Principal of Joaquin Miller Elementary School in Burbank and as a fourth grade teacher at Marengo Elementary.

I have been honored to work with so many wonderful students, parents and staff members,” Kubela wrote in a letter to SPUSD parents and students. “While I will take many memories from my years at South Pasadena Middle School, I am excited about the new experiences ahead for me and my family and I am confident that SPMS is well prepared to continue to prosper.”

Kubela notified staff of his upcoming departure in a Google Meet on Friday, Apr. 10 and will continue to work with SPMS administration until Apr. 30.
