The softball team narrowly lost its first game after the spring break at Temple City High School on Wednesday, April 8. With half the season over, the 5-4 loss puts the Tigers at 1-3 in league and 5-4 overall.

The Tigers started the game strong, with freshman Sophie Reynolds bringing in two runs and stealing home in the third inning to give the team an early lead. Temple City answered back with an unearned run in the bottom of the third and another in the fourth. Senior Cassie Baca scored soon after on a sacrifice fly from Reynolds, putting the score at 4-2 in favor of SPHS by the end of the fifth.

South Pas’s defense collapsed in the sixth as a poorly handled bunt let the Rams bring home another two runs and tie the game 4-4. The Tigers missed an opportunity to recover in the seventh with two runners left on base, while Temple City scored a final run on a walk-off single to right field to finish the game 5-4.

“I think our team gets too content whenever we have a lead, which always results in errors,” Baca said. “If we can eliminate that one bad inning then we would be okay.”

The team’s next game will against Monrovia at home on Tuesday, April 14.
