The girls’ varsity golf team heads into the 2016-2017 season looking to improve upon their high-achieving streak up to date. Last year, the girls claimed their eighth straight league championship with an overall record of 7-1 in the Montview league after a rare loss. This year, the team is looking forward to a fresh start but will have to do so in the absence of five seniors, several of which who were key players.
As the 2016 season begins, the girls’ team is looking for far more than to just dominate their league as in years past; they are looking to advance in the CIF playoffs. With 8 league titles to their credit, the bar is set high and the Tigers aim to build upon a disappointing finish to last year. After a strong season, the Tigers’ CIF journey was cut short at Los Serranos Golf Course, leaving the Tigers with much to dwell on in the offseason.
This year’s team, anchored by experienced Co-captains Emily Swanson and Caitlyn Yamashita and supported by junior Bethany Chen, junior Nicole Srisutham, senior Clara Wong, and freshmen Lindsay Biggar and Victoria Tsyviti, is looking forward to a promising season and success in CIF. Yamashita, Chen, and Swanson all qualified for the individual CIF competition last year but did not advance past the first round.
As much as the girls want to succeed in playoffs, the love of the game is evident throughout the team.
“This season we want to defend our championship as league champions.” Chen said “It would be great to advance to CIF but as long as we try our best, I think we’ll do great.”
The Tigers had their first game on Tuesday, August 30 against Webb High School where they came out victorious with an impressive 231-335 success.
