Out of the three South Pasadena varsity girls’ golf members chosen to play in CIF, only senior captain Katie Rosenberg made the cut at the Northern Individual Regionals at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard on Monday, October 27, to advance to the second round of Individual CIF at Western Hills Country Club in Chino Hills on Thursday, November 6.
There were 102 participants who entered in the CIF Regionals, but only the top 36 players could advance with a score of 78 or lower. Rosenberg advanced with exactly 78, but despite great efforts from sophomore Caitlyn Yamashita and senior captain Amy Chong, they did not make the cut, with the scores of 92 and 95 respectively. Rosenberg will go into the second round of Individual CIF as the lone representative of South Pasadena.
“Katie is an incredible golfer and I know she will just do fine whether she makes it to the next round or not. Katie has experienced many competitions like the one she is qualified to go to and with that, she will do just fine.” Chong said. “Making it to the 2nd round was hard enough and no matter what happens, our team and our coach will be able to stand strong and support her throughout the way.”
the Tigers are eager to reunite and bring a team CIF title home on Wednesday, October 29 at Los Serranos Golf Course in Chino Hills. Coach Goto will bring senior captain Alyssa Carlos, sophomore Emily Swanson and junior Christine Abbott along with Rosenberg, Chong and Yamashita.
