Rising senior Amar Ebrahim announced his verbal commitment to compete in track and field for Pitzer College via Instagram on Friday, July 17. Ebrahim competed in long jump as his main event, with a personal record of 20’8.5”, alongside the 100m, 200m, and high jump.

Ebrahim was also a dual athlete and played at the varsity level for basketball. However, he found certain aspects of track and field more appealing.

“I love how [track and field] is super technical and each movement needs to be very precise,” Ebrahim said. “I like being able to continue to push myself through PRs and compete at a high level.”

With parents who are Claremont college alumni, Ebrahim established a strong affiliation with Pitzer college. Combined with his desire to compete at the collegiate level, his commitment to Pitzer came naturally. Although not guaranteed for admission, Ebrahim decided to major in Kinesiology with a minor in environmental science.

“I feel like the other jumpers [at Pitzer] have the same kinda mentality as I do. Everyone is super hardworking and passionate about track just like me so I feel like I’d be right at home,” said Ebrahim. “It’s been a long period of hard work and dedication but I’m so glad that I stayed the course because it really paid off in the end and I couldn’t be happier.”
