Individuals in girls’ golf advance to next round of CIF playoffs with impressive scores

Five South Pasadena girl golfers – junior Caitlyn Yamashita, sophomore Bethany Chen, junior Emily Swanson, sophomore Nicole Srisutham, junior Clara Wong- along with the nine other girls from around the league all teed off at the Marshall Canyon golf course for round two of the Preliminaries on Wednesday, October 21. This round consisted of 18 holes with the top four scores advancing to the official Individual CIF on Monday, November 2 at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard.Yamashita, Swanson, and Chen each placed in the top four and will participate in Monday’s Individual CIF.  

The girls all swung the club well. Co-captain and Monteview League MVP, Yamashita scored the best out of all 14 girls on Wednesday with a score of 77 through 18 holes. Swanson and Chen qualified with scores of 93 and 90, respectively. Although, Wong and Srisutham did not score top four, both will be remembered for their outstanding runs.

“Im very proud of our performances. We played as well as we could. It’s too bad we couldn’t take all the spots, but we all put out our best effort,” Yamashita said. “We played really well as a team yesterday and clinched the league championship for the 8th year in a row.”

Individual CIF begins on Monday, November 2 at River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard and Yamashita, Swanson, and Chen will represent South Pas, hoping to grab a CIF championship.
