Girls’ water polo’s preseason drew to a close as they suffered their third defeat in a row to Crescenta Valley High on Thursday, January 8. The squad was crushed 11-4, despite junior Biana Vera aggressively leading the team’s offense.

The Tigers fell behind off the bat as senior goalkeeper Clarque De Young allowed the Falcons to fire in four in the first quarter. There was no support from the offense and team came out of the period trailing 4-0.

Vera shot in one for the Tigers first goal of the game in the second quarter, and after two De Young saves, the half ended with the Tigers still down 6-1.

Sophomore Skyler Ramirez replaced De Young in the goal in the third quarter, allowing in three. Vera powered in two more in the final period, but Crescenta Valley matched it with two goals of their own as the game came to a close, 11-4.

This is the second game of preseason where Vera has stepped forward as leading scorer, after powering in three against the Mayfield cubs. She has racked up the highest collective score on the team with nine goals in the past four games.
The Tigers dive back into action on Tuesday to take on Temple City for the start of Rio Hondo play at the Tiger pool.
