Girls’ soccer took on the Blair High School Vikings in a blowout, 7-0 victory on Friday, Jan. 9.
The game started slowly as the whistle was blown mere seconds after kickoff, upon realizing that the Vikings were lacking their eleventh player. A second whistle signaled the resumption of the game, with the Tigers now in possession. Taking the ball deep in, junior winger Kennedy Chang made a short pass to senior attacking midfielder Rose Vandeveldee, who blasted the ball past the keeper’s hands and into the net for the first goal of the game. Although the Tigers largely maintained possession, in their frenzy to score, they missed multiple opportunities within the first half and lacked composure.
Twenty-six minutes into the half, freshman left winger Lucy Bonz put the ball in the box, where junior right winger Alice Rowley then sent it to the bottom left corner of the net, bringing the score up to 2-0.
After a pep talk from their captains and coaches, the Tigers cranked up the intensity to dominate the second half. Junior striker Vasi Voloshin carried the ball up the field, but her shot was rebounded by Blair’s keeper. Senior winger Amada Cortes seized the opportunity, sending the ball into the net from the right corner and bringing the score up to 3-0 early in the second half. The Tigers continued to pound Blair’s defense for the remainder of the game, scoring an impressive four more goals within the second half.
This game brought the Tigers’ overall record to five wins, four losses, and one draw. The Tigers will march on to face La Cañada at La Cañada High School on Wednesday, Jan. 14, at 4 p.m.
