The girls’ varsity golf team played its first game of preseason against Polytechnic at the Altadena golf course, edging out the Panthers, 235-273. Although today’s match marked the team’s first time playing together, the Tigers started out the season on a high note with a 1-0 record.

Junior captain Caitlyn Yamashita played extremely well with a shot of 40. Junior Emily Swanson then followed suit with a score of 47 while sophomores Bethany Chen and Nicole Srisutham both shot a score of 48. Junior Sara Hasegawa rounded off the team’s scores, shooting a 52.

“It was great practice for us, since it was on a more challenging course,” senior captain Christine Abbott said.”I think that we can definitely expand upon this performance before our first league match and continue learning to play with teamwork for success.”

South Pasadena looks to improve to a 2-0 record on Thursday, September 3 through a victory on a preseason matchup against Westridge at the Alhambra golf course.
