Cross country takes on San Marino in second meet of the season

The SPHS cross country team faced San Marino at the second meet of the year on Thursday, Mar. 11 at Hahamongna Watershed Park.

Boys varsity once again obtained the top four places. Senior Andrew Villapudua led once again, completing three miles in 15:44 and beating his previous time of 16:03. Senior Patrick Latting landed second place with a time of 16:26. Junior Liam DeVilla finished in third place, completing his three miles in 16:32. Junior Brady Nakamura obtained fourth place with a finishing time of 17:24.

The girls varsity team dominated at the meet, earning the top four places as well. From first to fourth place respectively, was senior Lindsey Michels in 18:06, junior Sydney Morrow in 18:39, senior Amelia Jarolim in 19:43, and junior Lilian Zhu in 20:22.

“It was a hard course to run; there were hills, tight turns, and mostly rocky surfaces. Still, everyone performed better than expected,” junior Liam DeVilla said. “Personally, I’m happy with my results and I see room for improvement.”

Season One sports, which includes cross country, ends on Saturday, Mar. 20 and the league directors and SPHS athletics director are still determining dates for future meets.
