Boys’ Soccer defeated the San Marino Titans in a one-sided, 3-0 game on Wednesday, Jan. 7.
A relatively slow first half saw possession shift between the teams. The standstill that was cemented in the beginning of the game was largely due to the Titans struggling to break through the Tigers’ stacked defense. However, around 10 minutes in, junior Finn Harrington scored against the Titans, bringing the score to 1-0.
Despite efforts to regroup through the rest of the game, San Marino failed to score against South Pasadena. Senior Samuel Rodak scored his first goal of the game a few minutes into the second half, energizing the team and lengthening the Tigers’ lead to 2-0.
Following an assist from senior Leo Sanchez, Rodak took possession of the ball with four minutes left in the game and scored a nail-biter, bringing the Tigers to a 3-0 lead.
“I think that all of our training over winter break and our team’s composure prepared us for the match”, senior Silvestre Quiroz said.
The team hopes to improve their ability to break opposing teams’ defense and excel in their next match versus Blair High School on Friday, Jan. 9 at 4 p.m.
